Kerry was born in 1982. She grew up in Arvada, CO with her parents, Barry and Marilyn, and younger brother Brian. She was extremely active as a kid, taking lessons in swimming, ice skating, gymnastics, ballet, and piano. As she got older, she continued figure skating, competing in events throughout Colorado. In high school, she joined the marching band and went on to win the Colorado State Marching Band Championships in 1998 and 1999. She spent the remaining time in high school as president of the school's environmental club, webmaster for the student newspaper, and working on the literary magazine. She graduated from Pomona High School in 2000 and attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and has worked as a photographer, a chemistry lab technician, and a microbiologist.

Kevin was born in 1980 in Colorado Springs, CO and grew up there with his parents, Rich and Donna, and his older brothers, Cory and Shawn. Influenced by his father and brothers, Kevin was fascinated by computers from an early age. He began playing the piano at the age of six and continued to play for ten years. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. In high school, Kevin participated in the Future Problem Solvers program, competing internationally; he also bowled in a competitive league and found time to be a student computer technician at Air Academy High School. Kevin graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Kevin was offered a position at Northrop Grumman in 2005 and has worked there for over five years.

Kerry and Kevin first met in 2005. Neither of them remember it.

They next met at a friend's party in 2007. This time they both remembered it.

Six months later, after seeing each other again at a friend's wedding, they started dating. They soon found out they had a lot of interests in common, including Hayao Miyazaki movies (they watched Nausicaa on their third date!), ice skating (she's a figure skater and he's a hockey player!), astronomy, and Colorado Avalanche hockey (they took 1st place with their fantasy hockey team!). They have also helped each other expand their interests; Kevin is learning baseball and Kerry has started playing more video games!
